The 2014 HIV/AIDS and Aging Symposium will bring community leaders together to improve the lives of older adults living with HIV/AIDS. This one-day event will educate and inspire Central Texas social workers, physicians, nurses and care managers.

Symposium Highlights
Keynote by Perry N. Halkitis, Ph.D., M.S., M.P.H
PerryHalkitisPerry N. Halkitis is Professor of Applied Psychology, Public Health, & Population Health, and Director of the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior & Prevention Studies at New York University. Dr. Halkitis’ research examines the intersection between the HIV epidemic, drug abuse, and mental health burden in LGBT populations. His new book, The AIDS Generation: Strategies for Survival and Resilience in 2013, is now available.

Session with Andrew Martin, MSN, RN, CHPN
AndrewMartinC. Andrew Martin is a Nurse Medical Case Manager with AIDS Services of Austin and Adjunct Online Faculty at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. A nurse in the hospice industry for the past 17 years, Andrew is passionate about promoting end-of-life care education to colleagues and the community. Educating the community about end-of-life care continues through the recent publication of his book, Reflections of a Loving Partner: Caregiving at the End of Life.

Affordable Care Act Information with Monica Crowley, Lone Star Circle of Care
MonicaCrowleyMonica Crowley, Senior Director of Strategic Communication & Policy, will discuss how the new law will impact the HIV/AIDS and aging community.

Prevention Discussion with Tiffany Mack, Special Health Resources for Texas
Tiffany Mack will discuss HIV/AIDS prevention and education programming with the aging community.
